Task 7

1. What mistakes does Crusoe make?
He worked really hard to create his boat but when it was finished he couldn’t get it into the water. So the mistake that Crusoe made is that he worked without a plan.
"But all my devices to get it into the water failed me"
"But when... t/m... the other boat"

2. How does Crusoe respond to setback(s)?`
He keeps trying ("Well, to take away this discouragement..") But he also feels disappointed and sad because it cost him 'infinite labour'.

3. What lesson(s) does Crusoe learn?
Before we begin with something, we have to count the work it will cost us and judge our own strength if we can get through with it. You should have realistic goals and plans.

4. What message about the middle class is Defoe telling us?
The middle class is the best class, since it doesn't experience extremes of luxury or poverty, and they are determined, equipped and have common sense.

5. What similarities or differences are there between the Castaway raft scene and this passage about Robin Crusoe?
Both characters try to build some kind of canoe or boat. they way that they both look and act is also kind of the same. They are both determined and they work hard. At the end of this passage of Robin Crusoe, you read that it cost him 'ten or twelve years before he could have gone through with it'. In the Castaway raft scene he succeeds eventually, despite the high waves. The experiences are therefore different.
